2023 Next System Fellows

Dylan Wolfe
Dylan is a Sociology Major at George Mason University from Stamford, Connecticut. He plans to work with Move to Amend and is most looking forward to working with the scholarship cohort and forming a community, along with the opportunity to support Move to Amend in their Efforts to challenge moneyed interests in U.S. politics.
Frehiwot Tafesse
Frehiwot is a Sociology major at GMU from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, but currently calls Dumfries, Virginia home. She looks forward to learning how she can apply her interdisciplinary approach to her higher education to make an impact on communities and the world while benefiting from the professional development offered by the fellowship.
Steph Cathell
Steph is a History major at GMU from Fairfax, Virginia, and plans to work with Democratizing NOVA. They became interested in the fellowship after taking the pilot course offered by Dr. Manski, and they are looking forward to offering a historical and queer perspective to the study of system change.
Yichen Wang
Yichen is a sophomore Sociology major at George Mason University from Shanghai, China, and plans to work as a research assistant for Dr. Manski on constitutional design and change in China. He decided to join the fellowship because of the inequalities and injustices in the developing world, and a desire to bring social change in this context.
Eden Addisu
Eden is a Sociology major at GMU from Fairfax, Virginia. They plan to intern with DNOVA. Eden is looking forward to engaging with new materials and concepts in the emerging field of next system studies, and is excited to see the publicly applicable nature of sociology through their work. She applied to this fellowship because she believes it is a good opportunity for building connections with other students and with faculty at Mason, and is looking forward to working in an emerging field.
David Stoll
David is a Sociology major at GMU from Arlington, Virginia. David plans to intern with the Human Rights Campaign, the largest LGBTQ+ advocacy group in the U.S. He is looking forward to advancing his career in social justice while meeting a diverse cohort of scholars in the fellowship.
Pearl Renwick
Pearl is a sophomore Integrative Studies major at GMU from Virginia Beach, Virginia. She plans to take the DNOVA internship route. She sought to join the Fellows because of a desire for growth and development in her understanding of the social sciences. An interdisciplinary and challenging fellowship was an appealing route for these goals.
Finn McCarty
Finn is a Government and International Politics major at GMU from Washington, D.C. He plans to work with DNOVA. Finn is interested in understanding the processes of social change and has been interested in understanding the way people are mobilized in urban environments.
