Award winning research and action since our first year.
Award winning research and action since our first year.

Our current priorities include engaged research and action in partnership with communities, technologists, legal scholars, and social movements, as well as our Next System Fellows program and the formation of a Next System Studies Association:

Democratizing NOVA (DNOVA) is a long-term project of community engaged research and action dedicated to hastening the transition of Northern Virginia to a society that is truly sustainable, democratic, and just.

The Digital Commonwealth Project (DCP) uses a community designed digital technology process to produce a democratic and accountable digital system for community wealth, economic democracy, social service provision, civic participation, climate resilience, and mutual aid.

The Next Constitutions Research Lab houses a series of research projects on popular constitutionalism, constitutional design, and constitutional change.

The Next System Fellows form the heart of our course offerings, which are also open to other students and draw from across the sciences and humanities.

The Next System Studies Association initiative is building a global interdisciplinary network of academic and community-based scholars through workshops, conferences, teach-ins, publications, and collaborative research projects.
