Hanaan Kazia is an undergraduate student studying sociology, government, and public policy in the Honors College. She is a former Next Systems Studies fellow who has worked in local politics, nonprofits, and policy research. Her research often focuses on the political power of Muslim-American communities, the democratization of society, and social movement organizing in the United States.
Outside of academia, Hanaan is a founding member of GMU's Young Democratic Socialists of America chapter, organizing for student power on campus with others students of conscience. She seeks to bring this praxis into her research and work closely with her neighbors in her local Northern Virginia community to fight for a better world.
