During the 2025–2026 academic year, the IIR launched Leaving and Belonging, a digital storytelling initiative developed as part of its arts, culture, and storytelling initiative. This project complements the IIR’s broader mission to generate and amplify relevant research on immigrants and immigration to the United States by pairing research on migration with community engagement, using storytelling to amplify personal narratives and highlight lived experiences.

Saturday, March 7th, in Washington, D.C., a group of committed thinkers, organizers, and doers gathered at the historic (and employee owned) Tabard Inn for a special night. The evening was a vibrant blend of meaningful conversation, good company, and shared purpose, made all the more memorable by the unique charm of the venue.

Next System Studies at GMU is excited to announce the latest cohort of the Next System Fellows!

We were among 11 sites of Next System Teach-Ins that took place across the Americas. The energy, passion, and critical conversations over the past weeks have been exciting to see. We’re writing to recap the event's success and channel this momentum into our ongoing work as we look ahead to April 2027.

November 7 through November 14, GMU joins many others across the Americas for the Next System Teach-Ins.

We invite students, faculty, and staff to join us in planning our Teach-In. Together, we can take responsibility for system change and help build the next system. Another world is possible. A next system is necessary. This work is in your hands.
