After the Convergence, momentum builds

by Gabriel Gonzales

Let’s take the next step towards the Next System Teach-Ins this fall. Ninety eight of us, joining from across the globe from 12 countries, from Kenya to New Zealand, Brazil to Japan, Western Europe and 32 states and provinces in North America, have already come together in preparation. Through the Next System Convergence, members of more than 31 universities and colleges, as well as dozens of think tanks, unions, and civil society organizations came together to learn, share, and build momentum toward the promise of the Next System Teach-Ins.

We are all well aware of the danger our universities, communities, and municipalities are in. This is why we need to get to work and make our Teach-Ins a reality. Our goal is to pave the way for the emergence of Next System Studies on university and college campuses everywhere; build ties within and among campuses and local communities; and, infuse a broad array of next system organizations, campaigns, and projects with energy, ideas, and other resources

We’re excited to move forward. For our part, we’ll begin sharing new resources to support campuses and organizations in planning thoughtful, inclusive, and forward-looking Teach-Ins. What we need from you is to spread the word. Share the Next System Teach-Ins with your networks, among your organization(s), and to anyone you think might be interested. These conversations will allow us to challenge our system, learn from social movements, foster alternatives, and take responsibility for system change.

We look forward to what we can build together.
