Announcing the 2024 Index of Systemic Trends

The Democracy Collaborative has published The Index of Systemic Trends Report 2nd Edition, 2024, a comprehensive research effort to quantify, track, and visualize the multifaceted political, economic, social, and ecological system crisis across the United States.

Building on the first edition published in 2019, this latest data confirms the ongoing decline in key indicators of American well-being, including increasing wealth inequality, ecological damage, and threats to democratic systems. The index highlights the interconnected nature of global crises, showing how these problems stem from deeper structural issues within capitalism and neoliberal economic models. Through these data-driven insights, the index helps activists, researchers, and policymakers understand the root causes of systemic challenges.

The index also guides those seeking more collaborative and resilient models of governance and economy to design comprehensive, long-term strategies. Key topics include public banking, worker ownership, public production of essential goods, and community land stewardship. Overall, the index is a powerful new resource for moving beyond short-term fixes and building sustainable and equitable systems.
