DNOVA Council holds its first meeting

On January 12, the DNOVA Council of the Jan 2024-Dec 2025 Term held its first in-person meeting at the GMU Fairfax Campus. In attendance were 15 Council members and ex-officio members from local government, local businesses, labor, and community-based organizations. In their discussion, members highlighted issues of economic and social justice, housing, transportation, health, and education, identifying the need for engaged research on best practices and gaps in the current system, as well as developing technical support (e.g., training, resource centers) for workers and community ownership and aggregating capital and other resources.

The Council voted unanimously to proceed as a decision-making body with two-year terms and quarterly meetings.  The next steps for the Council include planning to institutionalize collaborative efforts, formulating impactful policies and strategies, and defining concepts and goals in the short and long term. The Council's next quarterly meeting will be in late April/early May.
